VIP toilet buying guide
A better buying decision starts here.
Buying VIP or portable toilets in South Africa? Use this guide to compare models, prepare the site and ask for a quotation that covers the details you need.
01 / START WITH THE LOCATION
What will your toilet need to do?
A venue hosting weddings has different priorities from a temporary worksite. Write down the intended use, how frequently the facility will operate and whether it needs to move between locations. This helps you shortlist a suitable format before comparing individual features.
For an event venue, presentation and the guest experience may guide your choice. For a worksite, access, cleaning and servicing arrangements may lead the discussion. Include accessible facilities as their own requirement where needed; do not assume a standard unit meets every user’s needs.
02 / MEASURE THE SITE
Check more than the body size.
Listed body dimensions are useful for an initial comparison, but they may exclude the drawbar, steps, ramp or space needed around the unit. Request the full transport and positioning measurements for the model you are considering.
Check the approach to your site, entry widths, ground conditions and turning space. Plan the route people will use to reach the toilet and the access needed for cleaning and servicing. Send measurements or clear photographs if the location has constraints.
03 / COMPARE THE FACILITIES
Confirm water, waste and power arrangements.
Different models use different water and waste setups. Ask whether the quoted unit needs connections, uses tanks or requires a chemical servicing arrangement. Confirm tank capacities and included fittings rather than estimating them from an image.
If use after dark is likely, ask about lighting and the power source. Some current listings include solar equipment, while the Small VIP specification excludes lighting and solar. Confirm the exact equipment and its specifications on the written quotation.
04 / REVIEW THE FINISH
Choose for your business and your users.
Compare the exterior appearance, interior fittings, compartment layout and access arrangement. Premium models such as Presidential and Medium Plush are positioned around presentation, while other units may better suit a straightforward site facility.
Ask for current photographs and a written specification. Illustrative event images can help you imagine a setup, but final colours, branding, fixtures and accessories should be agreed as part of the order.
05 / COMPLETE THE ORDER
Include delivery and the full equipment list.
A useful quote includes the model, quantity, selected options, delivery location and estimated lead time. Add wash basins, urinals or an accessible-format unit when these form part of your planned facilities.
Review the supplier’s current terms before ordering and ask the team to clarify any exclusions. Delivery access, positioning arrangements and the responsibilities for servicing should be understood before the unit arrives.
